Methodology
The assessment methodology follows IPCC good-practice guidance, combining permanent sample plots, allometric biomass models, and multi-temporal satellite imagery to produce validated, spatially explicit carbon stock estimates.
Field Inventory
Permanent and temporary sample plots are established using a stratified random design across forest types. Trained field teams measure tree diameter at breast height, total height, and species for all qualifying stems within each plot.
Remote Sensing
Multi-temporal satellite imagery is radiometrically corrected and classified to derive canopy density and forest type maps, which are combined with field data to extrapolate carbon stock estimates across unsampled areas.
Carbon Modeling
Field measurements are converted to above- and below-ground biomass using peer-reviewed allometric equations, then to carbon and CO2-equivalent using IPCC default and regionally derived conversion factors.
Validation
A sample of estimates is cross-checked against independent field measurements and reviewed by the technical working group before results are finalized for national reporting.
