FAQ
What is REDD+?
REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, plus sustainable management, conservation, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks) is a UNFCCC framework that creates a financial value for the carbon stored in forests, incentivizing developing countries to reduce emissions from forested lands.
How are carbon stock estimates calculated?
Estimates combine field-measured tree diameters and heights converted to biomass using species-specific allometric equations, cross-validated against satellite-derived canopy and biomass proxies, and aggregated to district and national levels with documented uncertainty ranges.
How often is the data updated?
Core forest inventory plots are re-measured on a multi-year cycle, while satellite-derived layers are updated more frequently as new imagery becomes available. Each dataset on the Downloads page lists its assessment year.
Can I use this data for my own research?
Yes. Published reports, datasets, and GIS layers are available for research, policy, and educational use — see the specific usage terms noted on each download and the Terms of Use page.
How can my organization become a partner?
Reach out through the Contact page with a short description of your organization and proposed area of collaboration; the project team reviews all partnership inquiries.
